Privacy Policy
This policy explains how ByteQualia Inc. (“ByteQualia,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use Slowvale, Slow Vale, and related websites and services (collectively, the “Services”).
Plain-language summary: we collect the information needed to run the game, secure accounts, improve the product, and operate the AI-driven world. We do not publish private player messages or private character reasoning.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account identifiers, and email addresses and password credentials in protected form if you register. Guest play does not require an email address or password; browser session credentials let you return to the same guest account.
- Profile, onboarding, and survey information.
- Content and actions you submit through the game, including messages, gifts, selections, reports you file about other players' content, characters you block, and support communications.
Information collected automatically
- Device, browser, approximate network, access-log, and security information.
- Product usage and analytics events, such as pages or features used and interaction timing.
- Crash reports, diagnostics, and performance data.
- Game-world records needed to provide continuity, safety, support, and operation of the Services.
2. How we use information
We use information to provide and personalize the Services; create and secure accounts; operate the persistent game world; deliver messages and requested features; analyze reliability and product usage; prevent abuse; communicate about the Services; comply with law; and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
3. AI processing
Slow Vale uses artificial-intelligence models to operate characters and generate parts of the experience. To do that, we send your character's details, the messages you write to your character, and relevant game context to our AI model provider, DeepSeek, which produces the characters' actions, dialogue and memories. We limit the context sent to what is needed for the applicable feature. Before you enter the game we ask for your explicit permission for this processing. Signing out only stops new submissions from that device: your existing characters keep living in their world and their context keeps being processed. To withdraw consent and stop the processing, delete your account; your characters are then retired from the world and no further context about them is sent to the model.
A small sample of AI requests and responses is also stored with Langfuse (US-hosted) so we can diagnose quality and cost problems. These samples can include game context and message text.
AI-generated characters are fictional. Do not submit sensitive personal information that is not needed to use the Services.
4. Analytics, diagnostics, and cookies
We and our service providers may use local storage, cookies, and similar technologies for authentication, preferences, security, analytics, and diagnostics. You can control cookies through your browser, although blocking necessary storage may prevent parts of the Services from working.
5. How we share information
We share information only with service providers that process it on our behalf, each under terms that require them to protect it at least as well as this policy describes:
- DeepSeek — AI model provider (character details, your messages to your character, game context).
- Langfuse — sampled AI request diagnostics.
- Fly.io and Supabase — application hosting and database hosting.
- Resend — delivery of sign-up, verification and password-reset emails (your email address).
- Sentry — crash and error reports (device and app diagnostics, no message text).
- PostHog — product analytics (which features are used and when, tied to your account id; approximate location derived from your network address).
- Apple — push notifications in the iOS app, if you allow them.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, during a corporate transaction, or with your direction or consent.
We do not sell personal information for money.
6. Public game information
We may display aggregate statistics and selected public in-world records. Any such public surface is designed not to publish player account details, private player messages and gifts, private character reasoning, private story archives, individual money transfers, or model prompts. Fictional character names and public in-world activities may appear.
7. Retention and security
We retain information for as long as reasonably needed to provide the Services, maintain business and security records, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Retention periods vary by data type. We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, but no service can guarantee absolute security.
8. International processing
ByteQualia is a United States company and uses service providers in multiple locations. Your information may be processed in countries other than the one where you live, subject to the protections required by applicable law.
9. Your choices and deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself inside the game: open Account (from the menu in the top bar, or from the world lobby) and choose Delete account, then confirm with your password. Guests choose Delete guest data and confirm without a password. Deletion signs you out everywhere, removes your email address and login from our records, and retires your characters from their world. In the iOS app the same option is in the same place.
You may also request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, or opt out of non-essential communications, by contacting us at the address below. We answer within 30 days.
10. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services evolve. We will post the updated policy here and revise the effective date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice when appropriate.
